Today I opened up all of the survey results in a spreadsheet and went through and analyzed the results. It took me quite a while as I had over 170 responses and therefore needed to make sure the results that I talked about were representative of all of the results. I used the premade Google Forms graphs for the quantitative answers and listed the main points from the qualitative questions. Now I need to analyze three clips from Edgar Wright movies to talk about in my video essay.
Inform our own idea...
The people who watch all of these shows I have looked at are all different age groups. Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway is one of the shows with the broadest range of people watching, the reason this show is like this because of Ant & Dec and also the show has a big range of content.
The findings suggest that if we go with the Saturday evening, ITV, 7 pm as this is one of the most popular times for viewing TV as a family. At this time people will put the TV on and just watch whatever show is on. For the group, this shows us that we need to make sure that our show doesn't collide with a popular show as everyone would just watch the show. If we did have to show our show at the same time as a popular show we would have to make sure we were appealing to a different target audience.
Based on our idea we now need to research our target audience to find out what they would want from a show, we need to think of ways we can make our show different from others. We need to research what the shows we want to borrow ideas from do and how they are really successful.
Today, we filmed at Greenhouse Mentoring, We went to college first and collected all the camera gear and brought it back to my house to setup and make sure it was all working. Looking back at this we should have done this at college as there was an issue with the back of the mic and it had to be balanced. The mic worked, but if we had checked this earlier we could have made sure we had a fully working one. The content manager has gone back to collect a new mic for tomorrows use. Both interviews were conducted very well and the new questions definitely improved the answers. With both of the interviews, we conducted I used the bigger cameras (Canon XF100 as the main camera and the small camera (Canon 1200d) as a second camera which had close-ups of the poeple being interviewed. I am very happy with the setup of the cameras so I will continue with this tomorrow.

Today, we went and filmed at Keech. Keech is the largest charity we are working with and the largest charity within the local area. Their size is indicated by the fact they have someone employed specifically for PR, none of the other charities have this. We started off by filming the children's area at the hospice. We were both very surprised by how homely and happy Keech is. We then filmed an interview with the Clinical Director and a patient. The patient then took the presenter around the garden, we filmed this and it will be played on top of the interview. After this, we visited a Keech charity shop where we interviewed a Keech volunteer. We also got general shots of the charity shop. At the hospice and the charity shop, we got shots of the presenter standing outside recording scripted shots which will plan between each shot. We had a new microphone which wasn't broken today which we will continue to use for the rest of this project. No production issues today everything ran smoothly.

I have labeled all of the footage we have filmed up to this point of production. I have labeled each clip with A-ROLL (main video e.g. interviews) or B-ROLL (video which would be played on top of the main video). I have then labeled each interview clip with either ACAM or BCAM so when I combine the interviews I can easily tell which camera is being used. This is followed by what is happening in the clip and a number if there is multiple of the same thing. I then have several clips which are labeled DONT USE, and these are the clips which I am sure at this stage I don't want to use.

Finally, I looked online at examples of lower third titles for interviews. You can see some examples of ones I like on the right. I then went into Premiere Pro and created my own for this documentary. They will all be the same as the one below except they may be flipped if the interviewee is on the other side. I will use the same template and change the template for each one.
Today, we went to Level Trust and filmed with them. Their charity is different to the others as they want donations of old school uniform more than money. We filmed around their shop and then did two interviews. The first was with the Fundraising, Marketing and Project Manager who I had previously met when I came to look round. The second interview was with the Administation Manager, who looks after the admin and the finance. This was the first interview we had with someone who is actually involved with the financals of the charity, so it was good to see a different perspective. For one of the interviews the presenter was wearing their badge which meant we had to re film one of the interviews, but suprisingly the interviewee gave us a lot more information the second time which is good. Other than this production was all smooth, footage from today has all been labelled and lower third titles for the interviews from today have been made.

Today, we were in college sorting files and getting ready for filming next week. Luckily someone in the second year was happy for us to record the voiceover in the first part of their time in the recording studio. We were planning to record it with a Zoom microphone next week but it was suggested that we used the studio. Maybe we should have thought about this and booked the studio for ourselves. The script didn't take long to go through as we had been through it several times before. We also saved the file in a WAV format as this means that it will be better quality. After this, I was practicing different editing techniques that I may use within the documentary. I also color corrected one of the interviews and tried to render it and it said it was going to take 2 hours, this has made me think when we render the actual documentary I should render as I edit as this will save time in the long run.

Today we went and recorded the cutaway scenes in town. These will be played when the presenter talks about charities in Luton. We got shots of landmarks in Luton and also outside shots of a couple of charity shops. We filmed the presenter doing the opening shot but we will have to re-film this as the lighting was too harsh making the presenters face not very visible. We will do this tomorrow when we are filming in town again, if the light is still too harsh we will move to a different location with less light. Other than that production went very smoothly and we are both happy with the progress made so far.

Today we went back to Level Trust and recorded a fundraising event which they are running. It was an escape room theme where groups of people would have to solve clues to escape and also zombies chased the group around. If the group wanted any clues or the answer they would be charged and the money would go to charity. The team we filmed doing it were Level Trust's business sponsor which is a local solicitor. We didn't use a tripod to film this as it would have been very unpractical wouldn't have worked well. Using the Canon XF100 for this meant that the footage will be more stable than a standard DSLR. If there are any issues with stability we can use the stabilizer function within the editing software. After that we filmed the opening section of the documentary, this was a re-shoot from the previous day as the lighting was too harsh. We have also decided that we will voiceover the end as we think it will be more effective as we can overlay relating footage, when we recorded the voiceover we recorded the whole script to allow us to make changes like this.
Diary 22/5/18

After this, I went and filmed a couple shots which may be used to overlay the presenter's voice. When I got back I imported all the footage into Premiere Pro and labeled it all. This took a long time as there was 16GB of footage filmed at the escape room. I tried to keep the clips short when recording as it would mean that when editing it would be easier to add the clips in. So this meant I had to watch all 42 clips and see what happened in each and then label them all. We used the wind muff when recording outside today as it was windy and we wanted to make sure that we wouldn't have to re-shoot for the second time. As what we were filming today was only happening once it meant I had to make sure I got the shot first time, the organizers of the event signaled to me when a jump scare was about to happen so I ensured I was rolling. We added an ad-lib presenter to camera section while the escape room was in progress as we thought it would be good for the audience to have some detail in why we were showing clips of an escape room.
Today was the final day of production. We went to Tokko today, it's a youth charity which focuses on providing a friendly and welcoming environment for youth. The facilities that Tokko have are very up to date so it was very easy to film the building. We filmed an interview with the Executive Manager and the Project and Marketing Officer. These interviews were really good and they both said good points which will be good for the documentary. Next, we were taken around the building and shown the rooftop which gave us some views over Luton. We also went into a couple of the rooms and filmed a few clips in these. All of the footage is now labeled and I have begun editing this documentary.
