Today I opened up all of the survey results in a spreadsheet and went through and analyzed the results. It took me quite a while as I had over 170 responses and therefore needed to make sure the results that I talked about were representative of all of the results. I used the premade Google Forms graphs for the quantitative answers and listed the main points from the qualitative questions. Now I need to analyze three clips from Edgar Wright movies to talk about in my video essay.
Inform our own idea...
The people who watch all of these shows I have looked at are all different age groups. Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway is one of the shows with the broadest range of people watching, the reason this show is like this because of Ant & Dec and also the show has a big range of content.
The findings suggest that if we go with the Saturday evening, ITV, 7 pm as this is one of the most popular times for viewing TV as a family. At this time people will put the TV on and just watch whatever show is on. For the group, this shows us that we need to make sure that our show doesn't collide with a popular show as everyone would just watch the show. If we did have to show our show at the same time as a popular show we would have to make sure we were appealing to a different target audience.
Based on our idea we now need to research our target audience to find out what they would want from a show, we need to think of ways we can make our show different from others. We need to research what the shows we want to borrow ideas from do and how they are really successful.

Today we started the editing process by labeling all of our footage with appropriate names. I labelled all the footage I didn't need as don't use and then labelled all footage I wanted to use with what happens within that clip, I also used a keyword within each clip of a single scene, for example: all kitchen clips have the word kitchen in the title which allows me when editing to search the word kitchen for all those scenes to appear. After this, I started the editing process in Premiere Pro, I have created a different sequence for each narrative strand and labeled them accordingly to the flowchart, I didn't think this was a good method at first but it is actually working really well. I have edited the first waking up sequence and also the sequence where Calamity gets ready at normal speed, which has been quite fun as it is funny to watch back. I have had to stabilize a lot of handheld footage but it has worked really well and I am happy with it. I had organized the videos by location already so the folder below is the labeled footage that was filmed inside the house.

Today, I continued to edit my Interactive short film, I started with finishing off the wakeup scene, then continuing through the flowchart. I have had to adapt the flow chart a little bit because previously one of the scenes would appear in both narrative but would have been the same clip but now it is edited differently so it continues through two separate narratives. After doing this, I went back through and previewed each sequence and added color correction to all of it, then I rendered and have started to export all of the clips. I will finish these off tonight when I get home. I hadn't considered how long the date scene would take me to edit, because of the multiple cameras it took a while to sync all the different audio and video clips so it looked good to watch.
Premiere Pro Skills

For this project, I have used Legacy title, which I have only learned how to do recently. These make it much easier to add titles to the project with full customization of text, color and font. I used this for the credits which appear at the end of the Interactive Short Film. I then used keyframes effects to add movement to the text (so it appears to scroll).

This is the first project where I have used sequences within editing, I normally just use the one it creates by itself but this time I have had to learn firstly, what they are and secondly, how to use them effectively. This has been really helpful because previously I have encountered people experiencing issues with sequences but now I understand them I will be able to find the actual sequences. Working with 12 sequences seemed very complicated at first but when you know how to use them and whats happening in each sequence it works out okay.
A big problem I found was finding different transitions to go between all of the different scenes. For one of the transitions I used a swipe, however, I made the swipe using keyframes as I didn't realize it was a built-in transition. Although some may consider a swipe to be cheesy I think because we are creating a romantic comedy we can be a little cheesy but I also think it compliments the shot of Calamity walking across the class really well.

I think the most used effect would be the cross dissolve for video and the exponential fade for audio. These both are very helpful for combining clips together. I also found the constant gain sound transitions really helpful when switching between the audio of different camera angles. Through this project quite a few times I have used audio from other clips but matched the video from other clips, this allows for even audio levels throughout a project but allows the camera angle to be moved around which means the video is a lot ore interesting.
Rom-Com Preview Survey

I decided to send out a survey because the whole class was doing focus groups and I thought adding another one to the mix would end up being less beneficial for me, so, I exported a scene and uploaded it and created a survey. I sent the survey to a couple people who are in the target market (Females 16-25) and a couple of people who have experience in media and editing. So I don't have loads of responses but the responses I have are from targetted people which I believe makes the answers more beneficial.
Firstly I asked them about the flow of the scene, form this I have learned that I need to look at the fades to make sure they are at a point where they are the most effective.I also need to look at the scene lengths to make sure they aren't too long and I need to look at the transitions to make sure they look good.

After this, I asked them about how Calamity is presented within the video. The majority of people got the idea about what Calamity's personality is, however, I think when they watch the whole film they will see Calamity fully which will give them a better understanding of her character.
Finally, I asked them to say one thing they thought I could change. Someone said I should shorten some of the scenes, I think I will shorten the scene of Calamity in the kitchen in the morning because it does go on for quite a long time. Also suggested was add music, only one song of Calamity singing, make darker by the curtain when Calamity wakes up, and check fades fit perfectly.

Eko Studio Screenshots

This was the first time I had ever used Eko Studio and it was a new experience. I found it very stressful trying to put all of the clips and the buttons together in the right place. I created my own buttons in Photoshop which I uploaded to Eko. I first created all the nodes and options on Eko, I then added all of my clips to Eko and finally finished by adding all of the buttons. I found it qute complicated added everything in all of the right places, and a couple times I watched it through and the wrong clips started playing but I sorted all of this out and am now happy with how it plays through. If I had a lot more time I could spend some time looking through Eko Studio and having a look at all of the features that they offer.
