Today I opened up all of the survey results in a spreadsheet and went through and analyzed the results. It took me quite a while as I had over 170 responses and therefore needed to make sure the results that I talked about were representative of all of the results. I used the premade Google Forms graphs for the quantitative answers and listed the main points from the qualitative questions. Now I need to analyze three clips from Edgar Wright movies to talk about in my video essay.
Inform our own idea...
The people who watch all of these shows I have looked at are all different age groups. Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway is one of the shows with the broadest range of people watching, the reason this show is like this because of Ant & Dec and also the show has a big range of content.
The findings suggest that if we go with the Saturday evening, ITV, 7 pm as this is one of the most popular times for viewing TV as a family. At this time people will put the TV on and just watch whatever show is on. For the group, this shows us that we need to make sure that our show doesn't collide with a popular show as everyone would just watch the show. If we did have to show our show at the same time as a popular show we would have to make sure we were appealing to a different target audience.
Based on our idea we now need to research our target audience to find out what they would want from a show, we need to think of ways we can make our show different from others. We need to research what the shows we want to borrow ideas from do and how they are really successful.
Draft Edit Peer Feedback

Today we each went around the class and listened to different parts of other peoples radio shows and gave them advice. As you can see the advice I was given was fairly detailed, I would have liked a bit more maybe. First I'll go through the answers which were simple, I was told the show reflected the brief well and the radio show meets the needs of the target audience. For the question about volume levels, it was suggested that I go over and try to make them all the same "some volume levels are uneven," before this comment I was pretty happy with the levels but I will go back again and have a look because a few people mentioned this. After this, I asked about the crossfades, everyone said they liked these and thought they were good, "the crossfades are amazing". Regarding the idents people said that the repeat of different ones meant that they weren't getting bored, "the repeat of the show name with different idents is good". They said that they liked the content choices and that they were a good length. For the question about the backing music, it was said that it complemented the voice well of the hosts. For the question about the layout of the show, someone said "the layout could be better, the talking is too short," the show follows one long pattern which is what the other shows do so we won't be able to change this, and maybe if we were doing this again I would change the schedule for us to talk for longer but this can't be changed now. For the areas of improvement box, it was said that I should add a lot of effects so I will play around with the effects to hopefully make the sound a lot clearer. It was also suggested that I increase the volume of the background music, I will have a look at these levels tomorrow when I improve the edit.
Focus Group: Survey
After receiving the above feedback I decided that I wanted a little more feedback to help me improve my work. I decided to export little clips from the final project, upload them to YouTube and add them into Google Forms so people could answer questions about different clips. See the survey here. I didn't want to publically send this survey because I didn't want answers which wouldn't be helpful, so I just sent it to some people with knowledge in the sector, and I'm very happy with the results I have.

For the first question I showed them a clip of the start of the show, I've found out that I should remove the spike of the audio at the start. One said they didn't like the music between voices but that is our ident and I think it fits well. The others were happy with how it is.
For the next question I asked them if they thought the sound flowed well into the presenter's voices, I was pretty sure it did but I wanted to check others felt the same. For this question, I received all positive answers.

This question was similar to the previous but reverse. One person said the voices sound a little scripted, I think if this was done again we would try to make the line between scripted and non-scripted a lot finer. Everyone else was happy, one suggested I decrease the audio of the host.
After hearing the correct sound effect used on Radio a lot I decided to add it, but then I started to think it sounded annoying. The majority of people said they didn't like the correct sound effect so I will remove it.

Lastly, I asked if the thought the pace going from the news to the following song was good, most people said they thought the pace was fine, others said a little faster and others said a little shorter. At the moment I think I'll leave this the same.

Today, I wrote up an evaluation of the survey I sent out yesterday asking people what they thought about different parts of the radio show. The answers were helpful and I have used it to change a few things in my show. Firstly, I removed the correct sound effects, because this was said to be annoying. I have also edited the show ident because it became loud very quickly so I have dimmed how quickly it starts, which makes it fit in a lot smoother. I changed a few others things as I went long such as individual volume and making sure idents start and finish in the correct places. Finally, I started writing my evaluation of this whole project.
