Barnfield Radio Ident

Previous to today's lesson I hadn't ever used Garageband seriously, so from the lecture this morning I had learned a few things which were helpful for today's lesson. At first, I thought Garageband would be really difficult to use, but once I got my head around the program it was pretty simple to use. I started off by creating a drum track and then using some of the other instruments to complement the drum sound. Before I started making the first one you see here I had a play around first to make sure I knew where most things I would be needing were.

In the end, I prefer the first one because I think the voices complement the sound a lot better. I am surprised because I think they have come out a lot better than I thought they would have done.

For some of the instruments I manually entered the notes, I found this quite difficult as it was really confusing trying to get all the notes in the right places.

I used this to play each of the notes from the instruments to let me ear what the instrument sounded like. I also used this to record live some of the instruments.

I added lots of different tracks and had different instruments on each track I did this so the layout way kept clean and I could easily see the whole project.

Diary - 9/1/18

Today I learnt a lot more about Garageband and how to use it to make something which actually sounds pretty decent. Before today's lesson I wouldn't have had any idea about how to start by making a track in Garageband, and with the knowledge, I gained and a little playing around with the software, sure enough, I managed to make something. For specific examples of what I learnt, see the above screenshots and text.

Today the thing I found most challenging was being able to replicate my ideas into the project because I'm not very musically talented therefore I found it difficult when I had to create the music in time with the beat, an easy escape to this could have been to use music and sound clips from the internet but I didn't think this was a good solution and I get trying. It took a while to get a beat which I was reasonably happy with and if the ident was actually used it could be refined so all the clips are in time with the music which would make it sound a lot better.

From the overassessment, the class said that I should create a more catchy beat and the beat shouldn't repeat it should change throughout the ident. Someone else said I should add more instruments to add to the song and make it more upbeat. I know I should definitely make these changes because the same three comments were made by everyone.

Today, I started off by creating the ad breaks with the ads I had sourced from online, I picked some of the adverts so they would be targeted at our audience. After this, we went and filmed our show which I think went really well. Then we created our idents which were fairly simple as we had done this before. Finally, I started piecing all this together in Adobe Audition.

Multi-tracks labeled for each different type of audio allows for a cleaner look and easier to find elements of the show.

Using crossfades between songs allows for a smooth flow and an ident which says the show name.

Effects rack, has been used to Amplify the audio of our voices and remove the background noise that came through with the mic.

Use keyframes to add my own fades between audio that was split across separate tracks.

Overview of the whole track, It looks a lot cleaner with the different audio types layed out separately.

Today, I started off by downloading music to use as the backing track of the show when the music isn't playing, I have added this to the show which makes it flow a lot better. After I added the backing music I added some effects to our voices, which makes the audio sound better. I then finished piecing together the audio together which took a really long time. Once, I put the audio together I was 15 seconds short so I added a couple Idents in places and now the audio track is exactly an hour. Following this, I need to go through and listen to it and remove any little mistakes which may have made their way through.
