Today I opened up all of the survey results in a spreadsheet and went through and analyzed the results. It took me quite a while as I had over 170 responses and therefore needed to make sure the results that I talked about were representative of all of the results. I used the premade Google Forms graphs for the quantitative answers and listed the main points from the qualitative questions. Now I need to analyze three clips from Edgar Wright movies to talk about in my video essay.
Inform our own idea...
The people who watch all of these shows I have looked at are all different age groups. Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway is one of the shows with the broadest range of people watching, the reason this show is like this because of Ant & Dec and also the show has a big range of content.
The findings suggest that if we go with the Saturday evening, ITV, 7 pm as this is one of the most popular times for viewing TV as a family. At this time people will put the TV on and just watch whatever show is on. For the group, this shows us that we need to make sure that our show doesn't collide with a popular show as everyone would just watch the show. If we did have to show our show at the same time as a popular show we would have to make sure we were appealing to a different target audience.
Based on our idea we now need to research our target audience to find out what they would want from a show, we need to think of ways we can make our show different from others. We need to research what the shows we want to borrow ideas from do and how they are really successful.
Pitch
I was pretty happy with this pitch, it was planned and presented really well. I think with this project we had a clear understanding of what we are doing and I think this was conveyed really well through the pitch as the panel said they could see our idea clearly.
The first thing they said to change was that we should change our secondary audience to be tertiary and create a new secondary audience which would be people who could be informed about donating to charity but may not have the money to do so at the moment and these people may think about volunteering at the charities. They also suggested that we had a clearer understanding of what each charity will do within our documentary, when we go back to college on Monday we will discuss this and make some plans. They said we should focus more on how each charity uses the money it is given, as a lot of people aren't really sure how the money is used. An example they gave was about Keech, they said if we had an interview with a patient we should then have an interview with professionals at Keech talking about how much money it costs for the patient to be there. At the end of the feedback, there was a bit of discussing fundraising events and charity money etc, this was good as it just answered the questions that the panel had. Other than that they said our presentation, pitch and project look good so far and they think we are working well together to make a good product. Practising this pitch definitely meant it was easier to present, and I think I definitely need to continue doing this in the future.

Today, we went to Keech and met with their Senior PR Officer. The interview was a bit quicker than ones we had previously and this was because she was very busy as she runs all of Keech's PR. We spent a while discussing our project and what we wanted to do with Keech. We have agreed to meet with a Patient and their family, a nurse and volunteers at one of their charity shops. It was really interesting meeting with a charity of a much larger size compared to our other charities, everything seemed a lot more professional and planned well, I think this is because they have more money to spend on resources which allow them to work in a more practical way. The person we met with will be present while all filming is in progress as Keech want to ensure that we are working in a ethical way and Keech's brand is not damaged in any way.

Today, my production partner and I went through the list of production paperwork and decided what was needed for our project. I will be producing all the paperwork for the production side of things. We both wrote the script as it required knowledge from the director and content manager. We spent a while creating the script as we wanted to make sure it was engaging. After writing the script we printed it several times and gave it out to a student in the class and two teachers. I did this because I think it is important to have other people with knowledge in the same sector look at my work. After looking at the feedback there are a couple things we missed like statistics and a few issues with how things are worded. My work partner and I will look through the information tomorrow and create a final script tomorrow. (Although the script is subject to change as it is a documentary and ad-lib comments may be needed).

This morning, we went through the script and based on the feedback we made changes to it. I think it is much better now the changes have been made. We then went and recorded the content manager reading through the script and there was one mistake which we went and changed. After this, I started working on the proposal. It took quite a while to do as there are so many different aspects to it. I think it has confirmed my idea even more on the project which is helpful. I then got the proposal checked by my tutor and changed a couple of things, this involved just explaining myself a little more a few times.

I spent all morning today working on the shot list for the documentary. I thought the shot list for a documentary type of project would be a little easier but in fact, its been the same as normal. It took quite a while as I have to go through every scene in my head and try to make the shots I envisage go on to paper. I will finish off the shot list this afternoon when I get home. The shot list will make filming a lot easier as I have already spent time thinking about how I would like shots to look. There is still scope for the shot list to change as when we are filming we may think of new ideas or our original ideas may not actually work while filming. Over the next couple of days, I will complete call sheets for each day of filming. We will be doing about 8 in total so this will take a while. Once the call sheets have been completed I will send them out to the charities that will be there on that day.

Yesterday, I finished off my shot list and uploaded to the website. I printed it this morning so when we are filming we have a copy with us. After that, I went through and did a call sheet for the first three days of filming. This took a while as I needed to find out all the details about the locations we are using to film. I then printed them once they were done and will send them out next week to the people who need them. I still have a couple more call sheets which I will complete this weekend. The first call sheet took me a while but after doing a few of them I am now able to do them a little more quickly.

This morning I completed call sheets for Monday 21st May and Wednesday 23rd May. Call sheet for Tuesday 22nd May will be completed when plans for that day have been confirmed. I then created a storyboard and a lighting plan. The lighting plan is slightly different for this project as we are unsure of locations at the moment. The storyboard is therefore different too, so the storyboard is made up of idyllic locations. I then had a progress review and from this, I needed to check the grammar in my script which has now been changed, complete the test shots analyse and also complete the sound plan with Elise. I really enjoyed making the storyboard as it gave me a chance to get the images in my head down on to paper.

Test Shots
Above are two of the practice interviews that we filmed a while ago. I reviewed them briefly before but now want to look at them in a lot more detail. The production positives include the surroundings in the second video, the background compliments the scene very well and we have requested to use this room while filming the final interviews. We would like a different room for the first scene as it is a bit busy with the messy desk and pictures on the wall. Sound quality isn't the best for these videos but will improve when we film the final product and will have a boom mic attached to the camera. We will use a Canon XF100 as the main camera and a Canon DSLR as a secondary camera which will mean when editing we can switch between the shots. The camera angle for the first shot is too high and is too low for the second shot. When we record the final video we need to make sure we film with the camera at eye level to the person being interviewed. In the second scene, the subject isn't lit very well but this could have been solved with a reflector, we have booked a reflector for when we are filming so we can illuminate this issue. Since the practice interviews, the content manager has conducted more interviews and has been looking in detail about different questions she can ask.
Here is a video which shows the second clip above colour corrected. All of the videos will be colour corrected before it is exported. You can see the colour corrected video that having used a reflector would have helped illuminate the right side of the subjects face a little more. All of the final video will be colour corrected so that it looks like we see it when we filmed the video, colour correcting too much could mean that the final video looks unrealistic.
This morning I created a call sheet for the second Tuesday of filming as plans for that day have now been confirmed, we are visiting a charity fundraising event. After this, I went back to the footage of the practice interviews and went over them for more of a production standpoint. I have had the work checked and all we have left to do is a sound plan which the content manager and I will complete tomorrow. After going back and looking at the practice interviews after a while it gave me different ideas about how we can improve. Everything for production next week is all planned and ready to go and hopefully everything goes to plan, as we said in the pitch we have several options if things go wrong,

This morning the content manager and I created the sound plan which I have uploaded above. This took quite a while as we wanted to pick music that will definitely work. The above statement is from the YouTube channel that we are using the music from, they create instrumental pop songs and are happy for people to use them as long as credit is given. After this, I started working on the end credit scene as I have all the information for that now. I am pretty happy with it but may change little bits so it goes with the music better and fits to the end of the documentary. I will have another look at the credits over the weekend and upload a video of them below when I have made a few changes.
