Today I opened up all of the survey results in a spreadsheet and went through and analyzed the results. It took me quite a while as I had over 170 responses and therefore needed to make sure the results that I talked about were representative of all of the results. I used the premade Google Forms graphs for the quantitative answers and listed the main points from the qualitative questions. Now I need to analyze three clips from Edgar Wright movies to talk about in my video essay.
Inform our own idea...
The people who watch all of these shows I have looked at are all different age groups. Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway is one of the shows with the broadest range of people watching, the reason this show is like this because of Ant & Dec and also the show has a big range of content.
The findings suggest that if we go with the Saturday evening, ITV, 7 pm as this is one of the most popular times for viewing TV as a family. At this time people will put the TV on and just watch whatever show is on. For the group, this shows us that we need to make sure that our show doesn't collide with a popular show as everyone would just watch the show. If we did have to show our show at the same time as a popular show we would have to make sure we were appealing to a different target audience.
Based on our idea we now need to research our target audience to find out what they would want from a show, we need to think of ways we can make our show different from others. We need to research what the shows we want to borrow ideas from do and how they are really successful.
Unit 13: Production
Diary

Today begins production week. Over the weekend I have been away in Peterborough so I took a film with me so I could gain some more experience with the film camera before I was using it for the actual project. However, when I was shooting with the camera the back opened, I think this was due to the winder being risen slightly. Today I went out and shot the main photos for the e-book in St Albans. I made sure to make sure the winder was down completley so the back wouldn't open. Taking photographs was a very smooth process and there wasn't any issues. I made sure to wind both of the films up as soon as I was done with them so there is no chance of any light getting in to them and I have put them back in their cases.

When I came to college this afternoon I have written up both my introduction and half of my first diary. I decided I would write the diaries in InDesign as it would mean that I would be able to see how much space the text would take up and then I wouldn't paste in lots of writing to find out it wouldn't fit. After writing each section I copied and pasted it in to Microsoft Word so I would be able to see any spelling errors or grammar mistakes. After one of my tutor's read the introduction they have suggested that I restructure the words so that it flows a lot better. Tomorrow I will be in the dark room developing the negatives and then I will continue developing the photographs.

Today was my day in the darkroom to develop my film. With a technician overseeing what I was doing I repeated the same process that I had done when I developed the practice film. The developing of the film went very smoothly. I set up the camera and shots that I wanted to be produced and the technician hit the capture button. The issue with shooting in the darkroom was the lack of light, sometimes we had to take exposures up to 30 seconds which was only a problem for the shots that I was in, I had to keep very still making sure I didn't move. We looked at all of the photographs while we were in the darkroom to make sure there wasn't any blur. I have since looked at the photographs on my computer and I need to take a few more, regarding using the enlarger with the negatives as the pictures I have are not clear enough. Above you can see the contact sheets, this is where you lay out all of the negatives and make a print, you can then go through and select the images you want to be made full size. A problem I found this afternoon was a lack of time when enlarging the prints. I knew I needed around 15 but didn't think about how long the process of developing the photos would take, my solution to this problem was to get Chloe to watch the prints in the trays and move them from one to another while I was putting the negatives into the enlarger and enlarging the images. As I haven't received a reply from the photo developing company I have decided that I will use a light box and take pictures of the images with a DSLR. I will do this tomorrow afternoon.

Today began by being in a photoshoot for another class member. After this, I began editing the images that I had used. For each of the red images (like the one above) I increased the brightness and contrast a little bit, I then used the red boost preset within the saturation menu which then decreased the red a little bit. I used a canvas of 18cm by 18cm with a PPI of 300. This means that the images will be very high quality which means when I add them into InDesign they are massive. So when this is printed the images will come out at a very high quality. After lunch, I was going to continue editing the images and building the photobook but both iMac's I tried to use would not co-operate so after spending a while trying to fix them I decided I would work on trying to digitalize my prints. The best way, in the end, was by using two LED panels on either side of the image in a dark room with no other lights. I had to use Blutack on the corners of each photograph as the corners had started to curl. I also had to make sure the camera was completely flat as this will mean the pictures will be easier to convert through photoshop. Tomorrow/Overnight I will sort out the pictures so they are ready to go in to the book.

Update Part 2... It is now just gone 10 pm and I have just finished sorting out the digitalizing of my developed photographs. Each of the photographs needed cropping as the camera was positioned wider than the size of each of the photographs. I also increased the contrast a little bit, I didn't want to edit the photos too much but this increase of contrast could have been done on the enlarger so it's not like I'm creating a fake effect. This was my first time editing RAW photos in Photoshop but it was very easy. You just drag the RAW image into Photoshop and the editing menu appears. There is a lot more controls as the image has a lot more capability as it was shot in RAW. I then exported each of the images at the highest quality and as a JPEG format. The photographs came out around 6mb which is very good considering they are photos of photos.

Today I came in and have gone through and written each of the diaries for the book. I wanted to get all of them done so I can go through and edit them all at once. I feel like I have achieved a lot today and am happy with my progress. I have added some more images and will add more as I go through the project. After looking at the developed photographs I have decided that I want to go back and re-enlarge some of the images as they are out of focus and because I want this product to be the best it can be I think it is worth my extra time doing this. I have printed out the project so far so I am able to go through it at the weekend and sort out all of the grammar, spelling and sentence mistakes. I will probably find sentences that need re-wording too. Also, going back to it later on with a fresh mind may make me realise other mistakes which I have not realised.
