Today I opened up all of the survey results in a spreadsheet and went through and analyzed the results. It took me quite a while as I had over 170 responses and therefore needed to make sure the results that I talked about were representative of all of the results. I used the premade Google Forms graphs for the quantitative answers and listed the main points from the qualitative questions. Now I need to analyze three clips from Edgar Wright movies to talk about in my video essay.
Inform our own idea...
The people who watch all of these shows I have looked at are all different age groups. Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway is one of the shows with the broadest range of people watching, the reason this show is like this because of Ant & Dec and also the show has a big range of content.
The findings suggest that if we go with the Saturday evening, ITV, 7 pm as this is one of the most popular times for viewing TV as a family. At this time people will put the TV on and just watch whatever show is on. For the group, this shows us that we need to make sure that our show doesn't collide with a popular show as everyone would just watch the show. If we did have to show our show at the same time as a popular show we would have to make sure we were appealing to a different target audience.
Based on our idea we now need to research our target audience to find out what they would want from a show, we need to think of ways we can make our show different from others. We need to research what the shows we want to borrow ideas from do and how they are really successful.
Unit 13: Pre-Production

Today I began doing my pitch PowerPoint. I started by adding all the slide titles. To begin I looked back at the slide titles for my FMP last year. I am filling out the slides then afterward I will add slides where I think they are necessary. I have added a lot of bullet points then when I read the slides allowed I will expand on the bullet points. I need to make sure I practice this pitch a lot more as with the last pitch I stuttered quite a lot and it didn;t look as professional. Tomorrow I will continue filling out the slides.

This morning I continued with my pitch slides and I just need to practice these when I get home this evening. Today, I had a 1-1 with a tutor where we developed some film from one of the cameras. It actually took two attempts. The first film came out blank after we developed it. The second one came out fine. The film not developing could have been down to either the film being out of date or one of the chemicals being too old. As the second film developed I think the first film had gone bad. I now have the developed film and I will test this out with the enlarger when I am next in at college. Tomorrow morning before my pitch I will complete my contingency plan document.

Pitch
I just finished my pitch for my FMP. I am very happy with how it went. I made sure this morning to go through the pitch and the slides to make sure I knew what I needed to say. I also wrote up bullet point notes in my notebook so I knew what I wanted to say. This meant I could write down prompts which I didn't want written on the slides. I think my presentation skills were very good. I felt I spoke very fast at the beginning but towards the end, I slowed down and this was as I became more comfortable. The questions I got asked included what were my next steps, I answered talking about my research into getting the photos digitalized and creating a page guide for the book as this will allow me to get thinking about what kind of paperwork I need to do for the project. Another question I got asked was about the vintage style and how I am going to include that. I said with borders made out of negatives or old swirls and designs and pictures of old things, such as keys, would create this effect. I also got asked about the diaries and if I was going to find inspiration for them or if I was going to just write down my thought process and feelings as I'm completing parts of this project. After this, it was suggested to me that I write down notes and thoughts in my notebook as this would look cool in the book, but would also make me remember my thoughts at a certain time. Then I was asked how I was going to think of a new title and I said it would probably just come to me, it was suggested that maybe if a word comes to me while making the book that I just use that, maybe the word being something about the journey rather than about the project itself. Finally, I was asked about taking the pictures in St Albans and whether I should use varied locations, I said I would be taking different photos in St Albans of like buildings, streets, landscapes. This would show the audience that the pictures they take could be similar to the ones I take. I will say it is St Albans but it won't be the main focus as it the location isn't that relevant. To conclude, I am very happy with how this pitch went, I feel like I presented myself very well and got across most of the information that I wanted to, having the notes in my notebook definitely helped me rememer information to include within my project.

Contingency
Plan

Today I began by going back to my contingency plan which I had started writing a few days ago. I continued with this thinking of all sorts of problems that may go wrong. I decided to add more detail, I had written things like if this fails I will get a professional company to develop the film, now I have added information about where I can actually get the film developed. I have also added fixes for problems such as internet outages and power outages, both of which have happened to us at the time we have been at college so could easily happen while we are in production of this project. We used to do the contingency plan as part of our pitch so doing this was a completely new task, but I didn't find it that difficult. I am happy with how it has turned out and it has made me think about new challenges I may face and how I can fix these before they happen. My next step is to be working on my Pre-Production paperwork. To the right is a screenshot from an email to the technician about booking the darkroom, and his message liaising with the other college technicians checking it is free.

Last lesson my pre-production paperwork list was agreed so when I came in today I got straight to work on my page guide/mockups. I had this idea to lay out all the pages on a A3 sheet in Photoshop. I have made this document with 300 pixels per inch which will mean when saved it can be zoomed in and more detail can be viewed. I started off by laying out all of my pages. After this, I went through and wrote down the diary themes and placing images where I want them. I have had to go back and add extra images as I need there to be lots of pictures as it will make the words I am trying to get across

a lot clearer. I have now started adding measurements to the pictures as this will give me an idea in InDesign of where the images need to go on each of the pages. Tomorrow, I will finish this off and complete my equipment list, budget and Risk Assessments.

Today I began by finishing off my detailed mockups. I have now added measurements of all areas including text which will mean that I if someone else was to see the mockups they would be able to create the same pages I have in my mind. After this, I completed a page guide which is like a contents page, although my book won't have a contents page. I then completed a budget breakdown which shows me how much this project was to cost if I didn't have all of the resources that the college provided. I have made a list of links at the bottom of the budget breakdown which are other alternatives if the first links within the table were not in the end suitable. Finally, I completed a risk assessment for the photo shoot in St Albans which was fairly straight forward. My next steps for paperwork include the design brief and the risk assessment for the dark room.

Today, I completed the risk assessment for the dark room. This was more complex than some of the others that I have produced in the past as the chemicals used in the darkroom would definitely cause harm if they were consumed in any way. After this, I have been working on the design brief. This is quite a helpful document as it questions why I am doing things which makes me feel like my work has more meaning to it. It also gives me an opportunity to talk about my inspiration for this project and why I have decided to do this. I have filled out all the boxes and will finalize this document when I come in tomorrow as this will give me an opportunity to add anything I think about overnight. I think I have decided on the name DEVELOP, I have been using it as a placeholder within the pre-production paperwork documents and it has stuck, I think this is a good name because it is concise and to the point, it straight away tells the audience what the book will be about.
Font
Justification

Today I finished off my design brief, I added a little bit more bit I was very happy with it. After this, I completed the font justification, I listed out four fonts with pro's and con's to each and then selected two which I like the most. I then experimented with both of these changing things like bold italic and color. I then picked one final design which looks very good in my opinion. After this I setup the InDesign project file adding the 20 pages. I also added the picture placements and text placements using the detailed mockups On Monday we begin production and I will be filming in St Albans.
